(Lenexa, Kansas, USA – September, 2021) SOR Controls Group (www.sorinc.com) announced that it’s celebrating 75 years of providing pressure, level, temperature, and flow measurement control devices under the brands of SOR, Smart Sensors and SENSOR. SOR Controls Group actively serves all sectors of the process industry with particular strength in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical and Power segments.
To commemorate the milestone, the company released a video (https://youtu.be/wvDzoiKNKs8) that demonstrates the friendly, energetic and hard-working culture that has continued for 75 years. SOR Controls Group hosted a celebratory party in October.
Established in 1946 as MechniArts Inc., the business was started by machinist Roy Dunlap in Kansas City. The first successful product was an improvement on food service trays that the company developed for Trans World Airlines (TWA). Dunlap’s dream, however, was to develop his own product. Inspired by an overheard lunch conversation of frustrated oil field workers, he realized the need for an accurate pressure switch. Dunlap developed a concept and approached a professor at the University of Kansas Physics Department for help in how to manufacture his idea. Its unique feature was the pinpoint accuracy of the switch due to its static “O” ring. Dunlap changed the name of the company to Static “O” Ring, later shortening it to SOR, Inc as more product lines were added.
Today SOR Controls Group is still managed by the Dunlap family and has manufacturing locations in Lenexa, Kansas and Houston, Texas and regional offices in Beijing and Dubai. SOR Controls Group supports a network of sales and service personnel capable of addressing customer requirements in any geographic market around the world.
